Connecting to a Data Source
Zuletzt aktualisiert am 03.03.2025
Overview
In order to integrate data from a source system into xP&A, you need to establish a connection to the respective data source.
There are two ways of connecting to data sources:
- Via the Data workspace
- From within a model
You can create various data sources for the same source system integration (e.g. to connect to multiple Google accounts).
Once a connection to the data source is established, you can:
- Link variables to integrated data
- Drill-down into the underlying details, from any variables connected directly to that data
- Link dimensions from a data source to dimensions in xP&A
- Share data sources with other xP&A users
How you work with integrated data in variables and formulas, e.g. how to set the currency of integrated data, is described in the sections Creating and Editing Variables and Creating and Editing Formulas.
This article contains the following sections:
Connecting to a Data Source from the 'Data' Workspace
To connect to a new data source from the Data Workspace,
- Open the Dataworkspace from the overview on the start page and click + New:
New data source connection in the Data workspace - In the Data sources dialog, choose the system from which you want to integrate data. You can either search for available systems or use the tabs to navigate between business areas.
- Follow the instructions in the New Data Source dialog.
A detailed description of the steps that are necessary to establish a connection to the individual source systems can be found in the documentation of the former product Causal at Causal University | Data Integrations.
Please keep in mind, that some functionalities may differ between Causal and the Lucanet xP&A solution.
Connecting to a Data Source Within a Model
To connect to a new data source from within a model:
- Open the desired model, click the + sign next to Data in the overview, and choose New data source:

Connecting to a Lucanet CFP Data Source
To connect to a Lucanet CFP Data Source, a connection between the xP&A solution and the Consolidation & Financial Planning solution needs to be estabslished on the Lucanet CFO Solution Platform, first.
If you are a current user of Lucanet Consolidation & Financial Planning, an administrator setting up xP&A will establish this connection on the Lucanet CFO Solution Platform.
It is not possible to connect to Consolidation & Financial Planning from within the xP&A solution. Please contact our customer support if you have any questions.
Once a connection between xP&A and Consolidation & Financial Planning has been established, you can connect to a Lucanet CFP data source as follows:
- Open the Data workspace.
- Click + next to the Lucanet CFP data connection to add a new data source:
Creating a new CFP data source - In the New CFP Data Source dialog, select the ledger and the data level from Lucanet Consolidation & Financial Planning, from which you would like to transfer data and specify the display currency and the date range for the data source:
